Too early to get scallops for Friday?

Fresh scallops. Busy week, can stop today. Too soon to keep them fresh in fridge?

I think they would 95% be fine. It sounds like you don't want to freeze, but just throwing in that I have frozen fresh scallops to cook later and they have always tasted fine.

I would go for frozen, unless I was certain I had a great source for quality scallops:

" a good IQF (individually quick frozen) scallop might be superior to a "fresh" supermarket scallop that's five days old."

Is there a good source around here for fresh, not previously frozen, scallops in March?

Never buy seafood thawed in the store counter unless you are cooking it within hours and even then give it the smell test - fishy, bleachy ? pass on it. You don't really know how long it's been sitting.
