Botox and breastfeeding

Anonymous
My toddler *will not* give up on nightly breastfeeding, just once a day.
I don’t want to force her for vanity, but I really need Botox.
Any experience with Botox at the end of nursing?

Toddler. It’s time. Don’t get to the point he/she is asking verbally for your boob. Go ahead and wean.

Are you a troll? Learn to say no! Be a parent.

Have Dad put your toddler to bed for as long as it takes to wean.

I pumped for a week and then returned back to nursing.

Would look into this unless you are ready to wean.

Botox injector here. What type of injections do you get? Botox does not circulate and I personally would be fine with getting it and continuing to breast feed. Are your injections medical or cosmetic?

Really.

No one NEEDS botox.

This is from HealthNews (so not the Mayo Clinic), but maybe more reputable than DCUM.

Can you get Botox while breastfeeding?
It is not recommended to receive Botox while breastfeeding. There is a chance it could be transmitted through breast milk and cause harm to the baby by causing botulism. Botulism is a deadly disease caused by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. It leads to muscle weakness and death.

Some believe the Botox molecule may be too large to cross the placenta and may not be transmitted in breast milk from the mother. However, there have been reports of Botox traveling through the body to areas beyond where it was injected. Studies have shown that if Botox is injected properly in the correct dose, it will not enter the bloodstream.

"Unfortunately, there are no studies testing Botox on breastfed babies to confirm or refute this. Because of the ethical issues surrounding research on breastfeeding babies, there are unlikely to be any studies performed in the future. It is best to be cautious and wait until after you are done breastfeeding to get your Botox."

I actually find it SO sad that someone is grappling with doing this. Toying with putting botulism into a young child's bloodstream. Because you think you will look younger for 3 months??????????????????????

The first sentence is the bigger problem here. I’m fine with people breastfeeding for as long as they want but to pretend you can’t stop because of what your toddler wants is insanity.

My OB said getting Botox is fine while breastfeeding. The botox doesn’t enter the breast milk. I got Botox four times while nursing with no adverse effects.

I know several women in nyc who do this.
