Fact: MOST of the kids do not leave after 8th. Please check other recent threads. This statement does a bit of a disservice to the bright, energetic, creative kids who stay. Those that do leave head to Wilson (usually they were in-bounds anyway and always had the choice), Walls (entrance exam and interview required), Banneker (same deal), or independent schools. They are well-prepared and report mixed experiences. In the case of Wilson, some have said their 'social world expanded' (Wilson is the bigger school) but the academics are less enticing. The ones who have gone on to Walls etc. are generally satisfied. The ones who have stayed at WL have more opportunities and close-knit relations with staff directed to a smaller pool and seem satisfied too. The HS is a work in progress, but it will find its stride and 'hold' more children after 8th over time. I hope this helps!
