Deal families planning to go to MacArthur?

DC currently at Hardy. Keep hearing that lots of Deal families are considering the new MacArthur HS for next year - both for for 9th and 10th? Interested if Deal families are hearing this and also considering MacArthur?

From my experience, parents don’t talk about these things. But I have heard from someone knowledgeable that I trust that about 150 students applied with preference, meaning about 150 students from Deal and Oyster applied to MacArthur. Everything beyond that is speculation.

Thanks. It seems to be the only thing Hardy parents talk about!! Do you know of those are for 9th or combo of the grades. I’m really curious what the composition of the supposed to be 100 10th graders will be like in addition to the 9th.

They had good turnout for the interest meeting at Deal (there are photos in the MacArthur Instagram feed).

No, I don’t know the grade breakdown (9th or 10th) of applications. Nor do I know the school breakdown (Deal or Oyster) of applications. My contact didn’t have this information.

We applied for a spot and will take it if we get it (Current deal 8th grader).

How do they get a preference?

You get a preference if you are in a J-R feeder (or at J-R), with the goal of reducing crowding.

Our only worry is transportation but we're definitely thinking about it in a few years.

Our Deal 8th grader applied for MacArthur and also SWW.

Just to be clear, the Deal preference to MacArthur is only for current Deal 8th graders and 7th graders. Then it goes away.

We have an 8th grader at Deal and put in for MacArthur in the lottery, but doubt we would send our kid there instead of JR.

Will they have similar language programming as Deal? Both Deal and Hardy offer Italian and that is a material concern for our family.
