White dust falling from the sky?

My DD tells me there are numerous reports of some sort of white dust or particles falling from the sky in parts of the region from West Virginia through Maryland. Is this true? Has anyone seen it?

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is one of NOAA’s Cooperative Institutes for Meteorological Studies and the birthplace of satellite meteorology.

On Wednesday, they tweeted these satellite images of large plumes of blowing dust across New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma.

This happened while we were in NC in June. It was a controlled burn that got out of hand. The ash was falling like snow.
