PSA - You can use Chatgpt to draft CL

Anonymous
Just discovered that chatgpt can write your first draft of a cover letter. Just sketch out the position and bullets on why you are qualified. Et voila! You have a cover letter! Amazing. I hate hate hate doing this. Much easier!

I haven’t tried ChatGPT yet. What are some of the most helpful things you’ve done with it, in addition to writing cover letters?

Id like to know too

ChatGPT seems like it has potential for fairly basic tasks such as "Create a table listing the top 10 publicly traded health insurance companies, their current stock price, and their 52-week high." That said, I've found numerous errors in its output and wouldn't rely on it at this point in time.

I'm not a fan of its written output, but I suspect it will soon dominate blogs/websites in particular sectors. For instance, it could probably displace much of the travel-related content written by humans.

Honestly, this sounds like the place where ChatGPT would be the most useful to me personally. Cover letters are sooo awful, and I can totally see how AI could combine my resume with the job posting and come up with a pretty decent first draft of a cover letter.

Totally! I’ve been casually applying for jobs (not really interested in leaving now, just want to see if I’m a hot commodity) and I have prompted ChatGPT to write a few cover letters. Very impressed with the results and definitely time-saving!

you can ask it to write in a different style and it will oblige.

My husband just sent me a sample of this. It was good!

There are already tools to screen for AI written text. Get ready to have your application weeded out if you try this.

Creates outlines, research papers, bibliographies, literally anything you want to write, it does.

I don’t think there’s a rule prohibiting its use for CLs

Also one can paraphrase super closely whatever it has written

There’s no “rule” prohibiting anything about cover letters. Doesn’t mean people will want to hire you when they can easily discover you used AI to generate it.

Haha. Is AI screening for AI?

Will AI start getting the paycheck? 😆

Bibliographies...from where? What's in Google scholar? Drop in the bucket of what citations exist across databases and catalogs that are password protected.
