Feta - How long is it good after opening?

Anonymous
I forgot I opened Feta about a week ago. Half is left in the brine and it's been refrigerated. It looks and smells fine. Is this ok to use today or will I make my family sick?

Totally fine

The website stilltasty.com is a great resource. It has the FDA guidance on longevity of opened and unopened consumables. Here's their guid for Feta, in brine, opened. Good for 4-6weeks

+1 Cheese keeps till it's moldy. And even then, you can cut off the mold. It's all mold, really.

No, it has definitely gone bad. You can bring it to my house and I will discard it for you.

Thank you for the replies. I thought Feta was different than other cheeses but happy to hear!

If you get it in brine do you think it keeps better with the brine or do you drain the brine?

Stays better in the brine. The salt water protects it from exposure to air, which dries it out and causes it to taste sour.
