Model Y Owners

I will be getting delivery of my car next week. I am so excited since I have been driving the same car for 20 years and don't even own a smart phone. I just paid off my house and done with college savings account ($200k) for 10 yr old son. I am 52 and am going to part-time due to health issues.

I have a few questions -

1) Did you get a special battery installed? What is parts and labor cost? I was thinking of just charging every time I did grocery shopping. My usage will be about 50 miles a day average - less during the week.
2) Did you get a tow hitch - may do a trip during the summer
3) How much do you pay every 6 months for insurance? With?
4) Things you wish you knew in your first year of ownership

TIA

Congrats on your new car. I have a friend in an apartment and doesn't have a battery. I think he pays the same he did for his old lexus sedan - not sure of exact cost. You should get some info here.

I wouldn't spend $$ on a tow hitch unless you have a large family and are doing many long trips - for any car.

1) Yes - I think it was $1300 all in
2) No
3) $500 extra a year
4) I wish I didn't upgrade. We could have spent $ on a new roof and some home improvement. Also I don't like the all electronic interface and the rear view is horrible.

1. Do you mean a special charger? If so, yes, we did, but it was years ago. I don't remember the cost. The level 2 charger is a lot faster than the regular outlet. I usually just plug in at night, but I don't need to do it every night. The times it really come in handy is when I plan to do a longer trip, so I can push it to 100% and have it ready in the morning. If you have space for a charger, I highly recommend installing one.

2. I do have a tow hitch, but I haven't ever used it.

3. Insurance is about 750 a year with State Farm.

4. Have fun! It's our 2nd Tesla, so I pretty much knew everything about it already. It will be funny, though, when you get into other cars and turn on the wipers when you intend to start driving.

What is the battery that the OP is talking about? Solar home battery? L2 charging cable?

If you are talking about L2 charging at home, OP you need to have an electrician come and install a L2 outlet at your house. DO NOT WASTE TIME L2 CHARGING IN THE WILD WITH A MODERN EV!

Have the electrician install a 240V outlet. When you first own your MY, you can simply use the charging cable that comes with it. After a bit you will probably want dedicated EVSE installed at your house. Tesla makes excellent ones but so do 100 other companies. Take your pick.

Charge overnight when you need to. It changes your entire outlook on driving when you wake up with a full tank every morning.

Did any of you get that special clear coating or even better a ceramic coat?

What aftermarket accessories did you get that you liked and wheee did you buy from? I was thinking of buying a trunk mat. But Amazon shows $200 for it,

Also for dashcam and sentry mode, do you have a USB drive?

If I kept sentry mode on say for a week, how much battery power would it use?

For $200 you could get mats for inside car as well. Keep looking. I did consider the ceramic coat but didn’t go with it. I only have the trunk and car Mats. I don’t use sentry model as I park in my garage.

In 11 days, it would discharge car but there is a fail safe mode that shuts it off when battery is at 20% so be careful of turning it on.
