clarify the relationship between hcg levels and the return of your peroid post m/c

I'm confused -- I keep hearing and reading different things.

I had a d&c due to a missed miscarriage. I know my hcg levels are still high since I took a pregnancy test and it's still positive.

When my hcg levels return to zero, does it mean a period is imminent, or does it mean that I'm four weeks away from a period??

I have had 2 missed m/cs and d&cs for both and have to say that my next AF came at the exact same time (31 days post d&c) for each m/c and my beta reached zero at two totally different times (beta was zero within 10 days of one and took 21 days with the other). While I believe you should ovulate once your beta reaches zero, I cannot confirm it as my own experience doesn't prove that theory out at all as I do know I consistently have a 14 day luteal phase.

Here is my experience after my miscarriage. My doctor monitered my HCG levels for a couple weeks while the levels slowly went down. I believe I ovulated right away when they dropped below 10 because I got my period exactly two weeks later. So, I got my period at 4.5 to 5 weeks after the miscarriage and then things were back on track.
