| I just did an admitted students visit with my child at Ohio University and was very impressed. We're in MoCo so it's not a school that a lot of folks around here have on their radar and I'm having trouble finding any first-hand experiences to learn from. Anyone here have a kid or know a kid who goes to Ohio U and can share their experience with me? My child didn't get into UMD, and with the money that Ohio offered her, this school would actually be more affordable than Towson, which she is not very excited about. So it's jumped to the top of my list, but want to have open eyes. Thank you!! |

Has a reputation as a good school.
I went to Miami back in the 1980s and Ohio U had a reputation then for being a party school and Miami was considered the best one in Ohio. Today those reputations are reversed. One nice thing about it is the undergraduate focus on teaching. They do Halloween right, too. |
| We are in DC and also attended the Up Close event. My son loved it and committed even though we are still waiting for some decisions. He kind of applied there on a whim but has seemed to find the best program for what he wants to do.We loved the tour of Scripps College and were impressed with the professor who led the tour. She seemed so accessible, down-to-earth and passionate about the program. We aren't choosing a university based on cost but with merit it is much cheaper than the West Coast school he was accepted to and comparable or less than other schools in the Midwest that he has applied to. It ticks all of the boxes for us. I find the Bobcat Parent page on Facebook really helpful. There are lots of parents who have had several students there as well as children at other schools so there is a wide variety of advice and commentary. The vibe is pretty positive. |
| I live in Pittsburgh and my kids knew a few people to go there (it’s < 3 hour drive). They all liked it and graduated from there. It’s a nice size too -about 28,000 students. |
Your son applied to & toured Scripps College ? Didn't something feel a bit off ? |
| If you like to party, then this is the place to be ! |
Today you and I both learned that Ohio University has a Scripps College of Communication, not to be confused with Scripps College in California. |
LOL !!! Thank you. |
Pwn3d. |
| Two friends who went there. One dropped out and another got pregnant but did finish after she had the baby. |

My husband went to grad school there. We loved living in Athens! However, it is definitely in the middle of nowhere! It has no public transportation and even a mall was about a two hour drive when we lived there. We spent more time in the car than we would have liked. How is your child going to get back and forth to school? will they have a car? (My favorite memory is of listening to the marching band. Our married student housing looked out onto the field where they practiced and we heard them a lot!) Surprising number of international students from all over the world given its location and somewhat regional reputation. Wonderful faculty and a great library. Restaurant offerings in town were slim to none!

What field your husband in grad school for? |
| Reviving this thread. DC is considering Ohio University. Anyone have experience as far as outcomes go? |
Sure send your kid to a school where she will have to have a male drive her around. Towson is better for job placement as well. |
| One doesn't need a car at Ohio U. There is also public bus transport to Walmart and movie theatre free to students. |
