Quitting when clearance is being processed

Anonymous
My new position was not what I was expecting. I figured that out 4 weeks into the process. I have been approached by another company with an offer. The cat h is that my present employer is processing a higher clearance for me. Does the clearance process halt if I quit? The upgraded clearance will be useful foe my next position but is not required.

Yes, your current employer will stop processing you, and the new employer will have to reinitiate the process if and when the government decides your role requires it. Clearances are dependent upon contract requirements, and cannot be processed or maintained in their absence.

I actually always wonder about this because I was told I needed to resign my clearance as soon as I didn't need it and certainly if I left my job, but it seems to be a big thing that companies like to hire people with clearances?

OP here: I can confirm that there are no issues with Secret clearance. My clearance came with me when I changed jobs. I understand it becomes ‘inactive’ at some point.
