Looking for a sleep doctor for my parent

Anonymous
My father has been having terrible sleep issues which are interfering with his work and health. He is nearing retirement age but really does not want to retire, however the sleep issues may force him to do so. I would like to help him. He has hard time sleeping at night, and then is very sleepy during the day. His doctor prescribed a sleeping pill which makes him sleep walk. Last night he fell and badly hurt his lip--it could have been a lot worse! Anyway, if you know of good and thoughtful sleep doctor, one who would have a broad approach to the problem, I'd appreciate a recommendation. Thanks.

You could go on the AMA website (www.ama-assn.com) and search using the doctor finder. If you can't find anything related, check out neurologists and then go to the provider's website to find out whether they specialize in sleep.

There is a doctor in the Barlow Building (I think that's on the MD side of Wisconsin Ave) by the name of Helene Emsellem whom I've heard is good, but I have no personal experience.
