Leased Car Maintenance

Anonymous
I am considering purchasing a returned lease Lexus. Does Lexus require lessees to do regular maintenance on these vehicles? Do they need to provide proof of maintenance? Thanks.

You would have to check the paperwork for the car service history. If a dealer serviced it they will have records to look up, if the lease owner serviced it independently probably no way to know.

It’s usually in the contract, but I’m not aware of a single human being in this country ever being asked to prove it.

No, they do not. Check the maintenance or carfax history before you purchase.

I use the carfax to help look for records and then call the dealership to see what work was done. Is this a CPO car?

Check the car fax it will list all maintenance done

It is a good idea but just keep in mind that carfax lists maintenance only if the shop reports it and most don’t.

There is not much maintenance required on a 2-3 year old car other than a couple of oil changes. Don’t stress over it.

Also, Lexus has free maintenance at 6 months and a year, so its likely that the first two oil changes were done.
