Usually one's most recent degree matters more, but it could vary depending upon the field of employment.

Both. There was just a story about how attending a top law school doesn’t “cure” having a less prestigious college on your resume when seeking SCOTUS clerkships. That’s an extreme example, but still.

Undergrad. Recent study showed that people with law degrees from Harvard and Yale do much better if they also have an Ivy undergrad.

I would think that has something to do with it, along with an extended halo effect.
