Do we know what the vertical scales scores are supposed to mean? I found some info for fall but not winter. I realized the scores were in there when I went to my get my 5th grader's report card. If the scores are similar to fall does that mean they haven't progressed? |
What I am not seeing is a way to interpret the winter data at all. What gives? |
I don't know, but I just looked at my 6th grader's stuff and one of the scores is significantly lower than in the fall. Yikes. |
Some kids don’t take the test seriously. Signed, teacher |
I’ve heard the test is flawed and the data is useless. |
We have not been given any benchmarks or interpretation information on the growth assessments this year. Can’t compare to last year because the content is different (now it’s the grade level the student is in).
Such a waste of time. Signed, a teacher |
Loudoun county has a little more helpful interpretation on their website. If you scroll to the bottom, there is a document for the fall assessment that notes the distribution of scores for all kids in VA.

This is helpful. Would have really liked to see APS give this to parents. Seeing it and realizing my kid is identified as gifted but not even scoring in the top 25%. Where’s the disconnect. I really love how the only point of these is to identify kids in the bottom 25% and just say to everyone else “watch your kid grow.” |
APS has this, they just bury it and for whatever reason is not included in any communication they send. There are links within this APS page that takes you to VDOE which has the same thing as on the LCPS site. https://www.apsva.us/instruction/curriculum-instruction/assessment/the-parent-corner/fall-growth-assessments/ |
Both the Loudon one and the one on the VA website are the scores from Fall. Would the range change for the winter? |
I think it says in the Loudoun website that a similar sheet will be made for the winter assessment, but no indication of when. I suspect it will be a while. |
Thanks! |
