Seemingly at every school

Look at adults right now.
Teens are living every day with idiots in this country. Of course they are struggling the adults are a mess. |
Exactly. Most kids are essentially on their own. |
|
1 in 4 are sexually assaulted and if the rapist is caught, which is rare, they get maybe 18 months.
Can't be outspoken. Can't be fat Can't be skinny Can't be too pretty Can't be too smart Can't win for losing. Listen, boys have their own issues, start your own thread. |
| It’s the social media. Get off those phones ! No one will say it bc big tech rules the world. They are unfortunately contributing to this mess. Parents need to step up and form actual connections with their kids. Easier said than done |
What does this mean kids are ‘on their own?’ Not true, in my experience. They are more tended to than ever. Parents are observant, careful, questioning, supportive, available, and watched over. And yet, kids are filled with anxiety. I blame technology/social media as well. And growing up with an absence of nature and community. |
It is social media. We as society haven't figured out how to deal with this yet. We all know it's bad but we stand by and let kids spend all their time on phones because everyone else is doing it |
Because their parents are hovering. And they have grind and slog through high school so they can go to the bestest college and eat more pie. |
| No wonder so many of them want to be boys. |
No, they’re not. That adults/parents are suffering too is part, but not all of the issue. Adolescent brains weren’t designed to handle things like social media, among other things. |
And boys want to be girls. |
| I do not want to diminish the importance of current problems for teen girls, but this survey was done in fall 2021, after a year and a half of pandemic and still in it. Remember how we all felt then? This completely colors the results. The Washington Post article does allude to this, but not until the second half of the article, and the NYT article about it doesn't even bother to mention this. IDK how often this survey is done, but my guess is that the next time they do it, the results will be that girls will be doing better, and there will be all sorts of reasons why postulated, ignoring the special conditions of when the previous one was done. |
So true - the mixed messages and female hate online is shocking |
As JK Rowling pointed out, the numbers of gender transition candidates from female to male have exploded. It used to be mostly male to female and much fewer candidates . The number of girls who want to transition to being males has sky rocketed since social media has started influencing so many childhoods. I am for transgender rights but agree that misogyny informs at least some of this movement. |
