William and Mary question

We are in Maryland and DD applied to W and M regular decision. We walked around W and M about a year ago but couldn’t fit in an actual tour. I have been told that W and M places a lot of emphasis on showing interest. If we have t been able to get on a tour, how else can we show “ interest?” I know the LOCIbut is that enough?

She has looked at the webpages extensively. We just have not had the chance to visit for a real tour, as I said and she missed the virtual info session this Evening due to a prior commitment.

I guess I want to know also if anyone has gotten accepted and hasn’t done the info session/ tour.
Particularly out of state.

She went TO, 4.68 w / 3.98 uw. Accomplished singer and sent in a video with the application.

Call the admissions office about remaining opportunities to show interest. Seems like you missed a lot of them. Is she really interested or just trying to get in somewhere?

Have you purchased Wm. & Mary apparel ?

Got the likely letter without any tours or demonstrated interest, but in state.

Check their CDS on how important demonstrated interest is.
There's no need to guess and go on 'what you've been told'

Did you happen to log in your walking around independently by filling out the card in the vestibule located at the admissions office? W&M makes it easy to record your visit when you come independently.

(if not, I'd prioritize her attending virtual sessions over a "prior commitment" if she is indeed serious about W&M)

Sending a thoughtfully written LOCI is always worth it, OP, as long as it's not to a university that explicitly forbids it.

My MCPS kid applied RD to W&M and was one of the lucky few to receive a likely postcard. I think he mentioned in his essay that he'd visited in middle school, for a Model UN conference, and that he remembered the campus fondly or something. But apart from that long ago visit, we didn't do anything else to demonstrate interest. Similar gpa, but 35 ACT and a dozen APs, with scores of 4 and 5.

Does her school have a visit from W&M? That counts too. Maybe she could contact them asking specifically about talking with accapella groups given her voice interest--mentioning that when she visited last year she didn't get a chance to find out about them. Every communication goes in the file.

BTW my DC is at W&M and loves it. Good luck to your DD.

It is a little bit late in the game and her application might have already been reviewed. With that I believe reaching out directly to admission would be a good starting point. Can you drive there again to the campus and just drop a note in the mailbox at the admission office to let them know you went there on your own and walked the campus again and just know you belong there? It would show initiative.

There is still one STEM and one Arts panel this month she can sign up for. Reach out and see if she can still shadow a class.

Good Luck to your DD.

They really want you to do the “optional” interview.

Yes. Admitted last year from OOS—DC. Did not do any tours. Submitted SAT.

What is a CDS?

Common Data Set. Each school has it. Here is WM’s. Look at the full CDS.
