death at Dunn Loring metro

Anonymous
A commuter died this afternoon after their (bag?) got caught in the train doors. Their dog was then found unaccompanied on the train. How devastating.

Metro’s Rail Operations Control Center and Transit Police Department received a report shortly before 1:30 p.m. that a person was being dragged by a train.
“Despite lifesaving measures, unfortunately the adult male individual was pronounced deceased after being transported to the hospital,” a Metro spokesperson said. “The investigation is in its early stages, but preliminarily it appears that an item being carried by the individual became caught in the train doors before it departed the station, dragging the individual down the platform.”

Ugh, it sounds like someone with a service dog. Horrible.

How tragic.

I wonder if the door was faulty. They won't usually close if something is detected being in the way.

How sad! I thought the train couldn't move until the doors were closed all the way. Is that not the case?

Metro doors aren't elevator doors, they close on things, arms, legs, people.

Operators are supposed to look out the window and check for these things, no? So so tragic.

How awful.

Yes, they poke their head out and look. Maybe they forgot, maybe their view was obstructed.

That would elevate this from “wow, that sucks” to “holy shit, that is a tragedy”

No, even if it's just a pet dog, this is a horrific tragedy.

No, it’s just a terrible accident. It’s a bummer. But that isn’t by any definition a tragedy.

Someone dying in a freak accident doesn't meet your definition of a tragedy? What is your definition?

And unlike elevator doors, they cannot be pried open easily at all.

A woman's scarf was stuck in the door on the Silver Line a few years ago, I think she got on a West Falls Church, but anyway, she and several strong men tried to both pull the scarf out and pry the doors open without success. It makes my stomach turn just thinking about what would have happened if it had gotten stuck as she was exiting instead of entering.

I would like to know more about the bag. What brand was it? If this is a faulty product, the manufacturer is probably liable for wrongful death.

Was it a messenger style bag? A backpack that the man couldn't get out of?
