AP NSL tutdor?

Anonymous
My son got A's in AP NSL the first two quarters.
He now has a new teacher (whom he had last year and liked) but the tests are impossible he said. Kids are getting scores like 3/15.
His grades are not that bad but he's probably at a C right now which is not typical for him.

I am now helping him study but he's really nervous about this ruining his GPA.

Are there tutors (even by zoom) who can help?

I was thinking a tutor would be a good idea to prep for the AP test anyway.

MCPS offers free tutors. You can start there.

I'm curious, if this is the same teacher and he got A's the first two quarters, why did the tests suddenly leap in difficulty?

Also, is your son getting specific feedback post test on what he got wrong and why it was wrong? That really shouldn't be a mystery to him.

Princeton Review have tutors. $125 per hour, various packages.

OP here. It is a different teacher than the one he had the first two quarters. The tests seem very different. I would have assumed it was my son who just needs to step up his game but I did step in to make sure he was prepared this time (since the last test didn't go well).
I never got involved last semester. He didn't need help. He did go meet with his teacher today but I don't know how it went.

He had this current teacher last year for a different class and likes her (and did well) but I don't want to wait until his grade is too low to fix and a tutor could help with AP test prep anyway.

He isn't available after school so I'd need to find someone on weekends or by zoom.

When my kid took AP Gov, their in-class tests were aligned with the AP format, albeit in smaller chunks. Any sense of whether one teacher’s version is closer to what they’d see on the exam?

Got it. I don't know why I misread that as he had the same teacher.

I think one of the things that's necessary but admittedly hard, is that you have to let your son do a bit of the troubleshooting. He'll need this skill when he gets to college.

He needs to get a deep dive on what he got wrong and why he got it wrong so he can adjust to what THIS teacher is looking for versus the previous one.

If after getting specific feedback and altering his strategy, then I think you as a parent can step in. But you do have to let him take the lead a bit here as opposed to swooping in and diagnosing and solving the problem for him.

Right? The teachers should be giving the same assessment.

Why would they switch a teach in an AP course? What is the reasoning

They switch teachers at the semester all the time in high school. It makes it easier for scheduling.
