| Does anyone have a child that is currently attending one of the three charters (Monocacy Valley, Carroll Creek or Frederick Classical)? We entered the lottery for these three for DC7 and they all seem great but also wanted to hear recent feedback. |

Bump.
I'm interested as well. We recently entered the lottery and attended a virtual "tour". For all intents and purposes, it sounds like a crap shoot to actually get into one of them which is odd because there are four. They're very competitive and it's a wonder why there aren't more given the apparent demand. |
| I also applied to all 3. I know that the classical school in on probation. You can watch the board meetings here. https://fcpsmd.new.swagit.com/videos/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=Frederick+Classical+ |
DP. Same here. I knew about Classical. I believe they're no longer on probation. |
We just got waitlisted for Frederick Classical
Hopefully the waitlist moves. Still waiting on results from Monocacy and Carroll. |
| Waitlisted as well in the mid hundreds for K and 50s for 2nd. I wonder if their waitlist usually moves. |
They do but a neighbor told me if you’re not in the top 10 forget about it. Not too much movement. Frederick needs more charters or larger charters. The demand is huge and the waitlists are always epic for all four charters. |
| I just received the waitlist numbers from both montessori schools. I am in the 200s for K. I can't believe the demand is this high. |
I attended one of the online open houses, I think for Carroll Creek, and they pretty much said demand was high. Someone asked why the county didn’t create more charters since they seem to be popular and no one had any answers. We applied to 3, didn’t want Sabillas, and got waitlisted for all 3. Praying that the waitlist moves … A lot. |
| Has anyone experienced any positive movement? |
No |
| I have experience with Frederick Classical. The new administration is impressive and we’ve been happy with the program. My child was 64 on waitlist and entered school in early October. Most students that drop off waitlist do so for transportation reasons. |
walking? Was this for K or upper grade? |
| I thought Fredrick is supposed to have good public’s. Why does it need more charters? |
Charter schools in Maryland aren't intended to replace poorly performing schools or outsource public education. They are intended to provide innovative educational options for families. There is still oversight by the local county school board and the MDSE. https://marylandpublicschools.org/programs/pages/charter-schools/index.aspx |
