Infertility Support and Discussion
| I had a D&C recently and don't see my doctor for another week. I'm curious how my hormone levels are -- if I take a HPT and it's negative, does that mean my hormone levels have essentially dropped down to zero or close to it? |

I have never had a D&C but have had two natural miscarriages. With my most recent miscarriage, my pregnancy hormone leves have been coming down slowly. The doctor said next week we should be able to take a urine pregnancy test and if it comes back negative than it means that it is close to 0 or at 0. I forget the min level most home pregnancy tests can detect - I think it may be 40 for the good ones.
So, all that to say, if your pregnancy home test came back neg, you are either close to 0 or at 0. I would expect such an outcome from a DNC. |
| I am sorry for your loss. Took me a month to recover levels after 3 different miscarriages. |

I am going through this too. Apparently my last known HCG level (end of May) was close to 200,000. I had a D&C on June 10. Two weeks after the D&C they were at 90. I took a HPT at 3 weeks post-D&C and it came back negative. It was a HPT that detects HCG of 25 ml (or whatever the dosage is).
I found on the internet the various sensitivities of HPTs...you could google HPT sensitivity and probably find it so you can know how sensitive the HPT you used is, and if it comes back negative, then yes, your levels are under that. NOw I'm trying to figure out, once my levels go to close to zero, when do I ovulate/have my period (though I am using birth control until I have my period, per dr.'s orders...) Sorry for your loss. Not a fun time! |
| I got my period as soon as my HCG went to negative - literally about two days after. |
