Arlington Montessori

I've just been offerred a coveted spot in one of the Arlington elementary public preschools. I work full-time. My son is currently in full-time day care. I'd love to hear from anyone who works full time and took a Montessori spot for their 3 year old. How did you handle aftercare (his school would get out at 3PM) and school vacations/summer break with your 3 year old?

we kept him in daycare. the bus took him there in the afternoon.

Interesting. I didn't know bus transportation was provided for the 3 year olds . . . Not sure that paying for daycare and school are an option for us though. But it's a clever solution.

You might be able to do a nanny share. We have an older son who will be in K this fall and a 3 year old who will be in preschool 2 mornings a week this fall, so we are thinking of sharing our nanny with another family.

OP - one of my neighbors is in the same situation as you are is looking for a nanny share for her 3 year old daughter who will begin Montessori this fall. If you want to post your email I will forward it to her.

PP: Thanks for your suggestion. I think even a nanny share (combined with the cost of the preschool itself) is a little more than I can spend. I'm essentially looking for childcare options for only two hours (3-5 PM). But if you know anything about how people handle summer vacations, I'm interested in that too. For instance, are there a lot of camp options for 4 year olds?

Does your Montessori school offer after school care? Ours did for an extra price. It wasn't that much and you could even include it in the price of tuition. It is worth checking in to.

Good luck!

OP - I'm in the same boat, and looking to save a little $ since I just found out they raised the Montessori tuition for this year. I'm looking for an afternoon sitter who could pick up my 3-year old daughter at 3 and watch her until I get home. If interested in teaming up, email me at LarimerL at hotmail dot com.

Only Campbell does afterschool care for 3-year olds.

During the summer, several full-day camps will take 3-year olds I think (my older one was 4 and we didn't have a problem). For school breaks/teacher work days, etc my husband and I took turns taking the day off. There's probably a better solution, but that's what we did.
