It's taken 7 months from the start of getting bloodwork to exhaust all testing options. In that time my period went from consistent 28 days to every 45 days and the doctors seem unconcerned.
I'm insanely worried they will tell us they are so backed up it'll be another 4 months or we have to do more testing. It's been 1.5 years since we lost a baby and can't stay pregnant. Any thoughts on staying positive or that you finally got the greenlight? |

If you don’t already, begin a schedule or protocol of sorts for your own well being - it could be regular massages, exercises, spa treatments, therapy, meditation, yoga, just some plan for just you and your inner peace. It can be a bumpy ride so having a self care plan is key.
In regards to actual protocol, try and schedule out as far as possible. If you are not feeling right about clinics approach then get a second and third opinion. |
Make sure DH is taking care of himself too,’leading up to the big day. |
Have they given you any reason to think this? |
Continuing with the theme of self-care / preparing, exercise and overall good health is important. A body mass index (BMI) over 27 causes a 33% decrease in likelihood to have a live birth after the first cycle of IVF, compared to those with a BMI between 20 and 27. Also, pregnant females who are obese have higher rates of miscarriage, gestational diabetes, hypertension, thromboembolism and problems during delivery, as well as leading to an increased risk of fetal congenital abnormality. Ideal body mass index is 19–30. |
Yes it's Walter Reed and we have 0 benefits as a military family. So it's them or pay 2x. They did confirm my fears, it's at least 2 months until egg retrieval and maybe 6 until transfer. Thats after putting us on hold for 5 months for some kind of "transition." Of course we're in this position in the first place because of my husband's assignments away from us and not being able to TTC at a younger age (previously no issue conceiving). It criminal to me that service members are treated like this. Put your life on hold for the military for basically everything and then pay us 10K when you can't have kids. |
I’m sorry to hear this. That is really frustrating. I realize that paying out of pocket is a huge cost. Is this something you are able to take on though? I don’t know what Walter Reed’s track record is, but if you are open to paying out of pocket or at least want to know what your options are out there I would recommend having a consult with a couple other places. You could at the very least ask them what their timeline is to retrieval and transfer. There is no guarantee but making you wait 6 months for a transfer for administrative issues really not good. It also depends on how valuable time is to you. I would think this information would land differently for someone in their late 30s versus early 40s. Also, fwiw, doing a fresh transfer is faster than frozen. You transfer about 6 days after retrieval date. Their are pros and cons to this and that is a medical conversation but just so you know… |
