| My daughter has a new Spanish teacher for second semester and is completely lost. There are no handouts, assignments posted on canvas, or textbook. She has received a C and F on the two quizzes. She met with a tutor before the last one, but it was impossible to prepare without any idea of what to study. I am wondering if we should approach the counselor to see about substituting an other class, but don’t know if this is a crazy idea or even possible. |
| Can you ask to switch teachers/classes? |
| My kid (then a 9th grader) was in a similar situation last year. Asked to switch teachers, was told no, and dropped for a PE class. Took a different language the next year. |
They will never let you switch because it would involve doing actual work and they hate that. |

Spanish 101? 201? Buy a book and have her learn the material. The language should be learned and not just quizzes passed.
Do you have the quiz? Can she recall what was on it? She can look up where the teacher got the material for the quiz based on what was on it. What did other kids say? |
| Our kid dropped for second semester. The teacher never had any assignments posted online and it was challenging to know what the assignments were. There were no textbooks, handouts, or posted lessons. Everything was him writing on the board. Our student tried to take pictures of the lessons, and was told yo put the phone away and use his ears and eyes. He replaced it with another elective and will take a different language next year. |
This is Spanish 4. I actually pulled out a Spanish 3 textbook with the tutor who said it would not help at this point. The teacher plays a Spanish video, and they are supposed to respond to the questions. |
I think that's how I learned Spanish back in the day. Why can't your son take the notes? |
You can't switch just because you don't like the teacher. |
| Talk to the counselor. Tell them about the C and F. That is not changing "because you don't like the teacher." |
| What school is this? |
B-CC |
have the quiz? Teachers do not let kids take quizzes home. They would have to rewrite them for future years. Kids are lucky to see them. |
