| Are middle school grades, for classes like algebra and Spanish 1,2,and 3, automatically included in high gpa calculations or must they be opted in with a special form? |
| I believe they are automatically included, but you can opt out if you want. |
| The system includes them if they help GPA, excludes if it harms GPA. Grades show on transcript either way, only issue is inclusion in GPA calc or no |
| thank you! |
Who cares? Colleges make their own GPA calculations and ignore what MCPS does anyway. |
| If you have a current junior or senior they have to be included |
NP I am confused. Looking at your transcript how do u know if it’s been calculated into overall gpa? |
|
This is what the regulation says:
a) For students who entered Grade 6 prior to the 2016-2017 school year, the final grade and credit earned for high school courses successfully completed while in middle school are reported on the high school transcript and included in the calculation of the student’s cumulative GPA. b) 2. For students who entered Grade 6 during or after the 2016-2017 school year, the final grade and credit earned for high school courses successfully completed while in middle school will be reported on the high school transcript, but will not be calculated into the cumulative GPA, unless the grade earned improves the student’s cumulative GPA. If the course grade for a high school course taken in middle school improves the student’s cumulative GPA, it will be applied automatically by MCPS. Parents/guardians may opt out of the automatic calculation by contacting the school counselor. |
On the Student Grades and Graduation Credit Report in ParentVUE in documents, they mark the ones that have been excluded from GPA. |
