Depends on the school and the level of privilege. The more entitled students and more lenient parents the more skip days. The tradition used to be one but lazy kids get their parents to approve more each year.

Do they even go to school in June?

Data regarding privilege? We are in the Langley district and there is typically only one Senior Skip Day per year. I think ours this year is within the next week or so — but my DD has a test, so she can’t skip. Also, the principal nixed the whole “seniors don’t need to take finals in they are in good standing” tradition — they can do community service, or take their finals.

What do the seniors do on skip days? DC is insisting that she get to skip during the skip day this week. Will anything happen to her if it’s unexcused? Will there be a bunch of seniors hanging out at the movie theaters? Maybe I’m overthinking this.

Our school has already had one and has another one coming up this week. I made my senior go to school for the first one, but will likely allow him to stay home for the next one. For the first one, there were very few seniors in school, so they did nothing in any of his classes.

Who decided when senior skip day is. Some underground group of seniors. How are you all saying there is one this week etc...Where is it announced? My kid is only a freshman but an organized skip day is weird to me so just trying to understand.

I’ve been told it’s posted on social media but I don’t know who the decision-makers are.

The students decide. It’s not an official school skip day. You didn’t have this when you were in high school? The difference between then and now is they seem to have several. Honestly, I didn’t even tell my parents. We got up and got ready for school and went out for the day. Fun memories.

Sure, I’ll support it when my kid is a senior as long as they are not skipping a test or doing this too often. No, I won’t call in an excused absence.

My DC went to TJ and they had 2 or 3. One in the fall, where most stayed home to catch up on sleep, work on college applications. Not the “fun” I had back in my day-ha.
