German School (spin-off from General Parenting thread)

Anonymous
To the German School poster from the multilingual kids discussion on the General Parenting board:

From what you can gather, do most kids' German language skills improve as they go through the elementary years, or do weak verbal skills remain an issue in the higher grades? If so, does this have a significant impact on the academic achievement of the students that actually have good language skills?

Related to this, I was under the impression that they are becoming more strict about language requirements, to the extent of not advancing kids into the SES and 1st grade if their language skills are insufficient. Is this really happening now, or is it too early to tell?

On balance, would you recommend the School? We'd really hoped to stay at the School for the longer term, but your post concerns me.

Thanks in advance for any additional insights! It's been difficult to get the inside scoop, so I really appreciate it.
