TAG letter - OLSAT results?

Anonymous
My child (1st grade) got the TAG identification letter yesterday, but there was no information about the actual OLSAT results. Does anybody know if they share this information with the parents? PG county. Thanks!

They did for my kids. Email your testing coordinator.

My son received the letter from school notifying us that he was identified as TAG based on the OLSAT and other required criteria. The next day he came home with additional paper detailing the results of his OLSAT scores that he received from his teacher. A few days later we received a letter in the mail from the TAG Office saying that he met the OLSAT score criteria, and was nominated for further review for TAG, but that it was not a guarantee that he would be TAG identified. So seems like the notifications are reaching some parents in reverse order...you should have received the OSAT results in a separate document. Your school's TAG Coordinator should be able to help you.

Curious...did they use the OLSAT or the CoGAT test this year?
I thought I heard CoGAT for the fourth graders but I wasn't sure what they were doing for 1st.

My son is in the 1st Grade so they used OLSAT as the standardized test for the entire student body. I believe testing at the upper grade levels are the CoGAT tests

I have a few friends with kids in PG. They literally all have kids in the Tag program. They all put their kids on a school bus at ridiculous o’clock in the morning and send them off to Bowie. I know no-one with kids in regular school.. it’s a shame they separate the kids so young

I agree and think that they start the TAG elementary school program too early.
As a TAG parent, I think that the TAG Centers are really beneficial in middle school. My kid is really thriving in the TAG program at Kenmoor.

This isn't the only option if you qualify for TAG, my son's school does it in the classroom because there is a large number of children who qualify at his schools. Some schools do pull-out, not everyone sends their kids to a TAG center.

No, but a good number do the TAG center so they have automatic placement into a middle school program. ESOL kids are invariably under identified because they test at first grade while many are still working out understanding directions.

This is 100% true. Another problem for ESOL/low income kids is the spotty transportation. I know a couple of families who pulled their kids out of a TAG center because the bus wasn't showing and they didn't have another way to get their kid to school.

PGCPS also does a terrible time explaining the TAG application process to families and you often need to figure it out yourself. Our local elementary school is pretty good about educating parents in 5th grade about the benefits of TAG but not all are.

Welp, our school goes through 8th grade so not a consideration for everyone. I wasn't arguing that wasn't the case for anyone, just not everyone. I know a lot of people with kids at a "regular school" both our school and others.

FWIW- with the exception of Greenbelt and Accoceek the TAG middle schools have plenty of seats available for the 6th graders. I know that all of the eligible kids who applied to Kenmoor got in for the last 4 or 5 years.

Sure, but you have to actually live in the Kenmoor TAG boundary to get a space there. They need a redesign of TAG throughout the county.

Completely true! Walker Mill and Tasker have also had plenty of lottery seats. They need to expand the TAG program in the north county somehow (either by opening another center or moving boundaries around).
Kenmoor only has seats now because they opened Tasker. They only opened Tasker because parents lobbied for expanding the TAG program.
