APS high school sport info

Would anyone be able to point me to high school sports information for Yorktown or Washington liberty? Specifically looking for tryout dates, when practices would start in the summer and the different levels of teams (eg some have varsity, junior, varsity, freshman, teams but not all). It seems like there’s not a “one stop shop “ for the NFL. Unfortunately, the middle school hasn’t been helpful, not that that’s their job. But this new high school family is hearing Aug 1 tryouts (?) and mandatory practices… which we didn’t know before we made our summer plans.

Go to the school's athletics page and info should be there. They also put all the info on the HS Athletic Twitter accounts. If you can't find what you're looking for, call the school and ask to speak to the office of Director of Student Activities/Athletics.

PP here - Most fall sports tryouts will be the first week of August, but they may not be finalized yet.

The “announcements” tab on Yorktown sports has a bit of info re 2023 fall sports. Says there’s more to come.

You could also reach out to the coach by email for whatever sport you are interested in. In my experience, they have been very helpful in sharing whatever information they might already have.

For most fall sports, it is true that tryouts typically start August 1 and they go straight into practices from there. The level of flexibility on missing practices in August may vary by school, by sport, by coach, and by level of play (varsity/JV/Freshman).

We found the freshman team coaches at W&L somewhat forgiving of vacation plans, but the JV and Varsity coaches are quite strict about expecting your player there throughout August.

It depends on the sport how strict they are on when practices start. Cross country is more relaxed, at least at the non-varsity level. Field hockey is very serious- if you don't show up every day for practice in August, you get cut. At least that's what the website said for Yorktown last year. Not sure about the other sports. But I wouldn't plan any vacations in August.
