| Need some guidance to decide Parkland MS over home school - Kingsview MS. I can manage the commute but don't have much idea regarding Parkland MS. Also, if I register my kid at Parkland and for some reason if things don't work out, can I move back to Kingsview MS. |
| What does your child think about it? |
Well academically all MCPS schools are about the same. They offer more or less the same curriculum. Your kid should do the same at any of them. You should visit both schools and go with whichever community seems like a better fit. |
We currently live close to Kingsview MS. Since kid got into Parkland lottery, wondering what advantage(if any) will he have by attending Parkland. Thanks! |
| If your child is interested in taking a string of classes about aerospace and tech, then it's a nice benefit. They can always return to their home school if it doesn't work out. |
What does he think about it? Is he interested in math science engineering? Would he like to stay close to home/with his friends? |

I had a kid at Parkland- they loved it. The big benefit is the 8th period. Students can do music, language, and still take electives. They take 2 science classes each year and can earn a high school science credit. Add on math and a science/engineering elective and you kid can spend half their time in STEM classes.
Standard advice for all 3 MSMC schools is to try it out for one year, and if you don’t like it, you can always return to your home school. |
