If your kid goes to BH, when did/will they leave preschool for k prep?
There’s a log jam in our center that has left my 4 yr old and a few others stuck in preschool. |
Different Bright Horizons do it differently, and also need to base it on the licensing agency's rule for ratios and group sizes
So it sounds like the oldest room is filled, and the next one down is full and has some 4 year olds in it? That's fine, as the teachers will naturally offer more challenging materials and books and discussions as the children age. And, the other 4 year olds will be building, discussing, asking, thinking, etc. more deeply than the younger children, but since they have a group of 4s it's fine as they will challenge each other. Our center has children who are 3 when they start in September, then they stay in that room for 1 year, so they turn 4 years old throughout the year - some in October, some in March, some in August - so there are always 4s in the room as well as young and medium 3 year olds - they play and work together all day very well. If the teachers are having a hard time at circle, they could split the children into 2 groups - with 1 teacher at each group and the children arranged by age - so the teacher with the younger children could read a shorter story while the teacher with the 4s could read a longer, more involved one. I did that as a teacher one year when I had very different age groups - other years we didn't need to do that. |
