Seems like a terrible idea, but maybe I am in the minority. Smells like a ZTA Trojan horse.

It is literally a ZTA. "An accompanying zoning text amendment is needed because it would allow for shared economy uses in the county’s zoning code, according to Livhu Ndou, the council’s legislative attorney who focuses on zoning matters." I think it's potentially a very good idea. |
| I guess Jawando’s book income is anemic and he needs another source of income |
| They are just dreaming stuff up. |
| You'd have to be nuts to allow strangers to come into your house to work out in your home gym. |
| So Golds Gym gets regulated but I can run an unregulated gym from my home? |
| Insurance coverage for that would be difficult. |
Just as nuts as renting a room to strangers. |
|
This was huge during COVID in countries that were more regulated than the US. When public pools all closed, if you wanted access to a pool, you could rent it from a private owner. People were paying thousands a month for pool access.
Even in the DMV area you could rent local pool access through a pool sharing app. |
No, the idea for you would be to run a regulated gym from your home. |
the unregulated pool rental market is so tiny that it will cost more to regulate than it will be worth. |
| People do rent out their pool or their peloton, but this is a very micro market. |
Would you prefer for people to do it without regulation? |
| How big of an issue or how many people are renting out pools and gyms that this needs to be regulated or addressed? This seems to be red tape for the sake of red tape. |
So, to summarize: it would be bad if people did it unregulated, and also it's not worth regulating it. |
