Why is your kid in Virtual Academy (high school)?

Anonymous
I’m wondering what the community of kids is like. We are considering it due to my DD’s anxiety; in-person school is becoming increasingly difficult. Wondering about others. I imagine it’s a small school now that most kids are back in-person.

Thanks.

I know a teacher in the Virtual Academy. She's really nice. She has mentioned her worries about socialization for the kids, especially the ones who are reluctant to turn on their cameras. But other than that, she makes it sound like it's just like any other high school.

My heart goes out to you as a parent of a child with anxiety. My dd has generalized anxiety disorder and met weekly with a therapist for CBT throughout middle school and high school. She started taking meds in college and that has helped tremendously. I wish we had started her on meds years earlier.

For Covid reasons but will go back in person probably next year but wouldn't rule it out for future. We've had a good experience with it but the social piece is a hard one. It really depends on the VA. Ours has about 2000 students still.
