My rising 9th grader is considering taking this class next year to satisfy his tech requirement. Anybody know much about this class? Blair staff have not been responsive.

I think the same course may be offered to 8th graders at TPMS. If so, do they need to repeat it at Blair if they're in the magnet?

No - there are multiple options to fulfill the tech requirement. This is just the one my child is interested in (based on something one of the counselors said last Friday).

Yes, FOT is 11th grade in mag curriculum, but it is classified as a regular class on the transcript. No mag bumo, fyi.

Bump, not bumo!

Hmm, it was not at all presented as a magnet class.

It's not. There are two intro classes students can take for their tech credit and this is one of them.

The other is FOCS.

But FOT is what all the Blair mag kids take. And, it is a part of the mag curriculum progression, taught by mag teacher, even though the class is a regular class on transcript.

OP here - in the course bulletin it does look like the same course as magnets kids take (has the same ID number). So, is it a particularly challenging course and not recommended for non magnet kids?

I've emailed the Dept and the counselor but no response yet.

Thanks.

It's not particularly challenging. It's just separate-- only mag kids in mag class with mag teacher. They probably add a bit, like having all the kids work on a project that gets submitted to Exploavision.

You used to be able to test out of the 2nd half of this and advance to the magnet CS class a semester early.
