My DH is all over the place. We have always believed he has Adult ADHD, and he would really like to seek treatment. Does anyone have a Doc they can suggest in DC on Maryland.
He's nervous about finally seeking treatment, and has never seen a psychiatrist before. From the outside he's very successful, bucause he has developed multiple work arounds over the years. But now with the juggling of marriage, kids and a big job, he really needs some help. Any advice? |

I've got ADD. There's a history of it in my family, and it was pretty straightforward to self-diagnose (there's lots of info on the internet). When I finally felt like I wanted to try treating with medication, I just went to my primary care physician and told him I was pretty sure I had ADD and wanted to try meds. My doctor asked me a series of questions, agreed with my self-diagnosis and wrote me a script for Adderall.
FWIW I spent one year on Adderall and found it to be very, very helpful. Then I went off when I started trying to get pregnant. I don't miss it at all, specifically because while I was on the Adderall I worked hard to learn new techniques to manage my ADD. Now I feel like I'm much, much better at coping with all the many things I juggle. Knowing that post BF I can go back on Adderall gives me, I believe, the confidence to probably stay off it. If that makes sense! Good luck. And keep in mind that all of those workarounds have made for many a successful person. |
