| I'm a sub who has worked in various FCPS schools. I can't understand why so many front office staff (not all - but a good number) are so incredibly rude. I'm always punctual, undemanding, and friendly. Do they just not like subs? Because I'm rapidly feeling very unwelcome in these schools. |
Our school has the best front office staff. You just need to find the good ones! |
|
Because the parents are PITA and they think you are them.
Helpful parents don't return, because the parents who have something to hide are even more rude. I don't know what to tell you OP, they need subs, and the front office staff should be welcoming! |
| Underpaid, dealing with parents all day long |
What are they paid? |
| I have seen and worked with some very cranky ones, and others have been great. You can let the principal know about their attitudes, although they probably know already. You can just say something like, “I felt like I was doing something wrong when I interacted with front office staff, and if so, I’d like to know what it was, because I’m reluctant to return when the experience starts off poorly.” |
| some of them are |
| Ours are nice. |
|
Eh, it not really an FCPS thing. It happens in a lot of places/industries
And keep in mind, some people just have a prickly personality. Shrug.. |
Good idea. They are the face of the school and leave a horrible impression when they can't even muster basic civility. |
| Ours are super nice. |
| Who cares if they are rude or not? They aren't your buddies. You don't hang with them. Be blunt, get the info you need, then leave. |
|
Oh look: Another trash FCPS post. What is wrong with some of you? Go over to the Montgomery County forum. I don’t see threads bashing the underpaid office staff. Go to the other VA schools or even the DCPS forums. You don’t see threads like this.
Are you just that cynical and bored? |
|
You're a bit overly sensitive Op
|

I don’t blame OP at all. Front office personnel is underpaid, but it’s a public dealing position. Don’t like dealing with people and their questions, get a new job, but don’t be rude.
The OP is a substitute teacher trying to help out the school. I believe there is a shortage of subs too. OP is certainly not doing the sub job for the pay or benefits. I think bus drivers get paid more than subs. So to deal with some rude office staff on top of the kids all day would turn me off. |
