| I am not looking at what looks good on a college resume. I know they aren't all the same in each high school, but I am looking for the elective that was fun, thought provoking, and de-stressing. I am going a different route with kid #2 that won't lead to stress and burn out. She is not in chorus or band and has zero desire for either. |
| A lot depends on the teacher. My kid liked Digital Art. |
| Mine took yoga as a PE class freshman year, and is really missing that breathing space in their sophomore schedule. It was better exercise than they’d anticipated, and really helped ease the transition to a bigger, more crowded school. |
What was the ratio of boys to girls in yoga class. DS wants to take it, but he doesn't want to be the only boy in the class. |
| My kid didn’t do it but personal finance is supposed to be fun. Pottery or something similar is also fun |
Personal finance is a requirement- not an elective in FCPS. |
| Music Technology, Piano |
| Theater |
| Ceramics |
Ok but this is MCPS |
Mcps has an elective |
MCPS here. DS took yoga and was one of maybe 2 or 3 boys in the class. The rest girls. Not a disadvantage, really. You keep to yourself and do your own thing in yoga, though, so there shouldn’t be a problem. One of the girls in the class was a cheerleader and after seeing how flexible DS was (flexible from years of karate), asked him to join the cheerleading squad! He really didn’t mind being in a class full of girls, but then again, he has two sisters at home. |
Well MCPS doesn’t care if our students have basic finance and math skills to help them in life. They prefer Calculus which we all use in our every day lives. |
Calculus is not a requirement either. |
Oh snap! FYI, kids enrolled in calculus do have 'basic math skills' and I'm sure they'd be able to figure out 'basic finance' in their 'ever day' lives.
