What electives did your high school students love (particularly freshman)

Anonymous
I am not looking at what looks good on a college resume. I know they aren't all the same in each high school, but I am looking for the elective that was fun, thought provoking, and de-stressing. I am going a different route with kid #2 that won't lead to stress and burn out. She is not in chorus or band and has zero desire for either.

A lot depends on the teacher. My kid liked Digital Art.

Mine took yoga as a PE class freshman year, and is really missing that breathing space in their sophomore schedule. It was better exercise than they’d anticipated, and really helped ease the transition to a bigger, more crowded school.

What was the ratio of boys to girls in yoga class. DS wants to take it, but he doesn't want to be the only boy in the class.

My kid didn’t do it but personal finance is supposed to be fun. Pottery or something similar is also fun

Personal finance is a requirement- not an elective in FCPS.

MCPS here. DS took yoga and was one of maybe 2 or 3 boys in the class. The rest girls. Not a disadvantage, really. You keep to yourself and do your own thing in yoga, though, so there shouldn’t be a problem. One of the girls in the class was a cheerleader and after seeing how flexible DS was (flexible from years of karate), asked him to join the cheerleading squad! He really didn’t mind being in a class full of girls, but then again, he has two sisters at home.

Well MCPS doesn’t care if our students have basic finance and math skills to help them in life. They prefer Calculus which we all use in our every day lives.

Calculus is not a requirement either.

Oh snap! FYI, kids enrolled in calculus do have 'basic math skills' and I'm sure they'd be able to figure out 'basic finance' in their 'ever day' lives.
