Maryland Medicaid long-term care—renewal

Anonymous
My loved one has been in a nursing home paid for by Maryland Medicaid. I understand there is an annual renewal process for eligibility. Does anyone know what they look for in the annual review? Is it continued financial need, medical need, or both? What information do they need?

It’s just a financial form. They will send it to you yearly.

Does the nursing home finance department not take care of this automatically? In my state they do. Just wondering.

OP here. I don’t know I haven’t been through it yet hence my question. The finance department is very good but I wanted to make sure I had all the right stuff. It was a lot of paperwork the first time around. Also, don’t know if they require a doctor to sign off that they have continued medical need.

It depends on the situation. If they handle the finances yes. If you handle you do it.

Does your loved one have a community spouse? If it’s just your loved one and all their income goes straight to the facility and there are no other accounts, then I think that you are good to go.

If it’s the former situation, you need all the bank statements. There is also a process for the community spouse to recertify their expenses.
