Can a student purge grade twice for algebra 1 if take in 7th and 8th grade?

Weird scenario, but how many times can middle schoolers purge grade so will not count for high school transcript? If take algebra 1 in 7th OR in 8th, know they can purge grade for first time take it, but if they take in 7th and purge grade, are they locked in for whatever grade they get in 8th and cannot purge if they take again in 8th?

Students are given an option at the end of 8th grade to purge any HS-level grades that were taken till 8th grade. It does not matter if the kid took the class twice in 7th and 8th grade.

And then the kids takes it again in 9th????

Yes, any high school course taken in middle school can be “expunged”.

Fwiw if you expunge the honors grade from 7th grade I’d just do regular algebra in 8th grade (assuming you aren’t expunging an A- to try for an A or something crazy!)

My daughter is currently getting a B in her 8th grade Algebra 1 honors class this year. What would be the benefit of her expunging this grade? If she did would she have to take Algebra 1 again in 9th?

Yes, she would need to retake the class. I believe it is a prereq for other math classes and saying a B was expunged will not fulfill the requirement that she took the class.

A B is a good grade. I would not expunge it.

Colleges don't look at middle school grades. It is what it is.

HS classes taught in MS count into GPAs. A “B” in Algebra will be counted into the high school GPA. The student will have the opportunity to take another high school class that could earn an A grade that will help increase the GPA because they took a high school class in MS.

Or the parents could realize that their child will likely end up at a very good college with a B or two on their report card and that the likelihood of getting into a Ivy League school is minuscule, even with a perfect GPA, and stop worrying about a B.

Or this kid is going to end up retaking Algebra in 9th grade because Mom and Dad want an A and not a B.

Do honors classes get any extra points when calculating GPA or is ot only AP classes? So if get A in AP class it is worth more than 4.0. Is that same for honors classes or are they just the same so A=4.0, B=3.0 etc?

It would put the kid behind when applying to TJ. However, I think grades in 8th for algebra don't matter here except for first quarter.

If a parent is asking about expunging the Algebra grade a second time then the child is not applying for TJ.

Yes. They get a .5 grade bump.

You do not need to retake Algebra if you expunge the grade (assuming you passed the course). You can retake it, but you don't have to.

Not true. You don't need to retake the class. It just doesn't show up on your high school transcript.

A wouldn't carry anything less than an A- into high school.
