Scary report today of a tire on an FCPS bus bursting into flames today in Pimmit Hills. Fortunately, the bus driver quickly evacuated the students and no students were harmed.
Metaphorically, FCPS has been a bit of a dumpster fire for some time with the school closures, failures to provide special education students with the services to which they were entitled, and the neglect of critical infrastructure needs at some of its schools for years. But now we're getting actual evidence of the consequences of their neglect and incompetence. What is going to take to get these people to focus on the basics, which include making sure kids have safe transportation to and from school, again?

School closures? Really?
Glad everyone was okay. That picture is intense. |

You lose credibility when you mix up various issues that have nothing to do with each other. If FCPS has a history of insufficient bus maintenance, then I agree that this incident could have been prevented. But when you put everything in one screed... you're just dismissed as someone who likes to point fingers.
I have a child with special needs who needed a ton of private tutoring over multiple years. I don't wait for the school to offer something, that's for sure! Public schools never have enough funds to cover everything, particularly in areas of rapid population growth, and as for the pandemic - you're really blaming an already stretched system for not responding well to a GLOBAL PANDEMIC? No government, no public school system, no one responded well. Ridiculous. |
| FCPS is not a dumpster fire. |
| There were no kids on the bus. |
+1 |
I disagree. The issues with FCPS are coming to a head these days and the PP was saying this was a physical illustration of those issues. Use your imagination. |
And this happened yesterday not today. |
There were kids on the bus who were evacuated when the driver noticed smoke. The kids were evacuated before the fire. |
Agree. (just the SB is)

It’s poorly managed and the oversight by a bunch of hacks with their personal agendas is atrocious. The phrase “dumpster fire” captures it well. |
I live in a lesser county with a fairfly sh*tty school system. I have to laugh when people in FFX and Moco go on about theirs. You have no clue what a bad school system is. No clue. |
it is actually one of the better managed school systems. I know you don’t want to admit that because it doesn’t go with your agenda, but it is. |
Girl, the idiots on the School Board are the ones with agendas. Take Keys Gamarra and her Lewis Academy pet project that is being created out of whole cloth because no one had a clue what it was really supposed to accomplish. Or Karl Frisch with his $36M waste of taxpayer money at Dunn Loring all to save Blake Lane Park. |
| That bus driver deserves special recognition |
