Does anyone have an expansive list? Or can we just create it here? I mean both test in, opt in, or whole school.
As in Blair - Magnet/CAP Kennedy - IB Einstein - IB BCC - IB Wheaton - Engineering magnet Walter Johnson - APEX Watkins Mill - IB Seneca Valley - IB RM - IB Poolesville - Math/Sci magnet, Humanities magnet, Global Ecology magnet Clarksburg - APS Etc |
| What is the point of the expansive list? Nobody qualifies for all these programs. |
| It's complicated because a lot of the programs are only open to in-bounds students, or certain nearby clusters. The regional programs are listed on the MCPS website, but not the individual school programs like WJ's APEX. |
Or you can look at the MCPS web page for high school special programs: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/specialprograms/high/ |
The individual school programs are listed too. |
| Add Biomed magnet to Wheaton as well and VAC to Einstein |
| Is your child 7th or younger? You will get a list of eligibility and you will be oriented towards the programs you should apply to when it's time (Fall of 8th). It's not your responsibility to identify which ones you're eligible for, it's just your responsibility to check the boxes and fill out the appropriate info for the ones your kid wants to apply to. |
So many challenging and rigorous options are available at MCPS. THis is an embarrassment of riches! |
This. My child is at a magnet and I was surprised to find out that he was also eligible for DCC high schools, although we're out of boundary. The list of options was, like, 15 positions long. It's a pretty interesting arrangement - going to a CES doesn't qualify you to go to their middle school - but my point is, you will find your eligibility out when time comes. |
It's one of the wealthiest counties in the nation, and there are 160K students to support. The embarrassment of riches doesn't come from MCPS, but from our situation. |
| If you are in certain areas you have a lot of options of "academies" or pre-professional programs too. Have heard great things about those programs FWIW. There are great ones in biomed or health, media and so many other areas. |
say it without tears! |
Yep and this is not even the complete list. |
