Kindergarten innovative school calendar question

Anonymous
I plan to enroll my child in our local elementary school for kindergarten. Our zoned school is an innovative school calendar school with basically year-round instruction. Is there a way to opt-out of the summer instruction and enroll only for the traditional school year? (Big caveat here that I know this program is immensely beneficial for many families.) Thanks in advance for any intel.

I highly doubt it, it's not like a regular year plus summer school, it's a whole different school calendar that includes multiple longer breaks during the "school year" than other schools, along with the extra days in the summer.

You could try for a COSA to a nearby public school based on:

1) Sibling school calendars and wanting them to align;

2) Parent work schedules (if a parent works on a regular school calendar);

3) The need for an extended break over the summer, like if you always go "home" to another country for two months every year.

Something like that?

I would call central office and ask if there is a school you have the right to send your child to with a traditional school calendar. Then, file a COSA for that school.
