So out of the ~800 applicants to the Blair magnet, they will accept 100 and then how many end up in the wait pool, usually? Is there a certain timeline to the waitpool moving, like after a certain date it's pretty sure the attendee list is set and way unlikely to move?
I want to set my DD's expectations now, since there is only a 1/8 chance she will get in (she's a good candidate but most of these kids are). Thanks. |
| You attend the open house, then you decide to stat at your local school or shift over to the magnets. Pretty simple. |
I think the OP is asking what happens for those who don’t get in but are waitlisted. Reasonable question. |
| You just wait until the school starts. Update them as your kid has new data info. Musical chair game lasts until the school starts. Good luck |
| Does anyone know how big the wait pool is? Is it 100s of students? Or just a few dozen? |
nobody knows but it does move |

Some kids drop out late in the spring or summer. DD was invited to both Blair and RM. Accepted RM but at the end decided to return back to her local school prior to the start of the school year. I thought I would feel some regrets like we had something special but then gave them up. I didn't push her either way and wanted her to choose. She's happy, well challenged taking rigorous classes and at the same time able to pursue her passion outside of academics. She still meets up with her magnet friends, and it doesn't seem like they missed a beat.
Please don't fret if your child does or does not get in. It's a marathon. |
