I have an update on merit -- we heard from Pitt and IU again this week. $40K at Pitt and $24K at IU.

Congrats! Fascinating school!

Why is it?

Here to ask the same thing. We are taking my kid to visit next month and hopefully see what’s what. He was admitted to the honors college and got merit aid… it has a program he likes and we have family in Tucson so he applied. Curious if anyone has more info on here about Arizona! (I saw somewhere that like 40% of their students are not from Arizona! Lots of California kids?).

I'm from Tucson so have lots of family that went to the U, including nieces and nephews that have gone on to really great graduate programs and careers. I think it's a great school, especially for certain majors (like STEM fields). They tend to have lots of kids from the Northeast that are looking for some sunshine and also lots of international students that don't want to go freeze in Michigan or wherever. It's a nice campus, although many of the students live in apartments around campus and stretching up north. The food in Tucson is so good. The honors college has a really good reputation. I don't know if it's still true, but it used to be kind of hard to get into the honors dorm, though, so the old advice used to be to put your deposit down on the housing asap, before you've even made up your mind about the school -- if you lose the housing deposit, so be it. I don't know if that's still true, and what the housing deposit costs now though -- it didn't use to be a large amount. It doesn't have the intense party scene that ASU has -- that's the old rep but I think it's still true based on what my young relatives say. Like you can join greek at UA if you want and it won't be too crazy, but the ones at ASU said the Greek system there is kind of over the top drinking etc. and was a turn off for them.

Whoa. Is that $40k per year at Pitt? Congratulations either way!

Does anyone know if the EA decisions for UIUC, UMD and Wisc-Madison are coming up toward the end of this week? Thanks.

This is very helpful - thank you for taking the time to write! I have heard such good things about the food in Tucson. I am going to look into the shortage of housing in the honors dorm. It’s like that at UMD, too, I believe.
