When can you start exercising after you delivered? Is there like a standard couple of weeks that you shouldn't do anything at all, presuming you have a vaginal birth? I would really like to get back into shape asap but nog really sure when is a good time to start working out. |
I waited until my 6 week post partum checkup. -- and then I took it slowly. I know people who started earlier, but for me, I figured those 6 weeks didn't matter in the long run toward regaining my fitness. However, it could potentially matter in healing. |
My doc told me to take it easy until 6 weeks too, although I started walking the day after we came home from the hospital. I think it is just important to take is slow and pay attention to your body.
Good luck! |
I found myself doing light exercise - running up and down the stairs, taking the dog out, morning stroller walks, etc. within a week of my vag. birth. Then again, I was atheletic pre baby so maybe that helped me. Plus, the "light" exercise seemed to really decrease the PP bleeding for me.
The afternoon of my 6 week PP appt with the doc. (and got her approval) I went for a long (over due) run - life long runner itching to get back to routine. Every mom is different when it comes to recovery. Some are more comfortable others still maybe a little sore. My wrist actually hurt a long time because the dang night nurse really messed up when sticking me with an IV thing. |
Every mom is different and a lot of it depends on how much you exercised during pregnancy. I ran 5 miles most days of the pregnancy and was running again (although slowly) at 4 weeks post-partem. I don't think that is usual, though. |
