iPad mini

What app is best? Kindle for iPad? Don’t need bells and whistles or a library of stored books. Just a one and done reader. Should I bother with Amazon free trial?

What is your question - do you have a mini and want to use it as a reader? Are you wondering what device to get? If you don’t already have a mini, just get a kindle. If you have a mini, where are you getting books from? I download from the local library and they have an app of choice.

If you are in Montgomery County, you can get library books online from the hoola or libby apps (each has a different selection of books) . Many of the Libby books can be downloaded in kindle format. If you want to read from kindle app are are willing to wait for titles, the library has a great selection.

I read on my ipad via the libby and hoopla apps for a few years before getting a kindle. I love the kindle screen. The trade-off is that there's no color, but the kindle is supposed to be easier on your eyes.

I now find that I prefer reading through the kindle app. I avoid Amazon whenever possible, and libby lets you choose whether you'll be reading the book in the libby app or in kindle.

I also keep the kindle app on my phone so I can read if I'm waiting in line or have some time during lunch at work.

Most of the libraries in the region will let residents in other counties have cards, so you can load several library cards in libby and borrow from whatever library has the item or the shortest wait for it.

I was a hard core iPad mini fan.

However, the Kindle is so much easier to read. I take my Kindle Oasis everywhere. It's never not by my side. Reading in the sun or in a dark bedroom without bothering your spouse is life changing. I leave it in airplane mode, which makes the battery last forever.

I hardly every buy physical books at this point. I use Libby for 99% of my needs.

+1 on kindle oasis. I like that I can take it to the pool especially. I still really love books, but this is great for night reading. It’s lighter than mini as well.

+1 to the PP who said the Kindle is lighter. I love my slightly older mini, but when I was given a Kindle I was so surprised by how light it was. I have reoccurring carpet tunnel issues and this makes a difference.

I like Libby - no way I can use it on a Kindle is there?

They work together. You link them together and then there is a button in Libby to check out on your kindle. It’s very easy.

When you borrow on Libby, it says "Read with..." next to the title on your shelf. You can choose to read in Libby or Kindle from there.

My iPad mini and my Kindle app are both set to dark mode. I find this much easier on my eyes when I read at night. I use the Libby app but read those with the Kindle app (in dark mode) whenever possible.

I use Kobo on my iPad and I also use their reader. Didn't want to support Bezos any more than I already do. They have a really wide selection of books and audiobooks although it's not quite as extensive as Kindle's.

No one is talking about purchasing kindle books. We're reading library books on our ipads.

We stopped shopping at Amazon during the H2 stuff. Is using the kindle to read library books supporting Amazon?

Looks like everybody but OP is talking about library ebooks.
