Question about Lexus Oil Change
I bought a preowned Lexus NX with 47k miles on it from an Acura dealer. Shop notes from the dealer say no oil change was done. Looking at the Carfax, it says last oil change was done at 44k. Okay, that makes sense. However, in looking at the Carfax, it shows the previous oil change before 44k was done at 41k miles. The sticker on the car says last oil change was done at 41k as well, and no record inside the vehicle of 44k oil change. Would Carfax mistakenly have reported the oil change at 44k? Should I assume it was last done at 41k and go get one ASAP? This would annoy me, because then I would have to get one at 50k again to make sure the maintenance schedule is properly aligned. It has a turbo engine FWIW, so definitely needs regular maintenance. |
If you plan to keep the car awhile, just get the oil change now. It’s cheap insurance and you have peace of mind. |
| Assuming it’s 0W-20 synthetic oil, 6,000 miles isn’t even to the service interval yet, which is generally about 7,500 miles in most cases. So a change at 44k would’ve been absurdly early anyway. |
It depends how many miles you drive a year. I change my oil annually as I don’t drive enough to hit the mileage limits. |
If you do mostly trips, that’s probably reasonable. Contaminants can build up in the oil because the oil never gets hot enough to “cook” the contamination out. But if only did long road trips a few times a year, then I’d say you were safe in stretching the interval out to a couple years. |

I just took mine in for a tire leak. I asked the shop to add the oil change since it had been 6 months from the last one. The shop said I only drove 3000 miles and would not need oil change for another 6 months.
So I would not worry if I were you. |
