| And what about Marc jacobs? I feel like I’m a bit out of touch, but I like their handbags. Would love a DCUM reality check. Please tell me, am I tacky?? |
| Yes Tory Burch is tacky. |
| ??? Wha, how? |
| I think the ones with the huge logo on them are tacky. But without the huge logos, they’re just regular handbags. So if you find one you like and it’s not covered in the designer’s name/logo, go for it. |
| I feel like MJ and TB were very popular years ago, but are dated now. Not tacky though. |
+1 Coach is also in this category for me. |
| I don’t like anything with huge logos. The Marc Jacobs “the Tote Bag” is really stupid. Coach, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton bags with the huge letter logos/fabrics are tacky. But if you really like the shoe or bag, get it. It’s your money and your personal style. Dont worry about what I think. |
But Coach has been around a lot longer than TB (what does MJ stand for?). The older Coach bags can be classic. TB, with that huge logo, doesn’t say classic. |
| Not tacky. But it screams MC who desires to wear a brand but can’t afford a flashier brand. |
| Anything covered with logos is tacky, no matter how exclusive/expensive the brand. |
This. Just go with subtle. |
| Both are tacky if over 30. Good starter items otherwise if you can't afford LV, Gucci, Chloe, etc |
| The people who ask if a brand is tacky are the tacky ones. |
As someone who isn't into purses, I find the fact that we use them to signal status really fascinating. Like what . . . it's something you put your keys, phone, and tissues in. Sure, a cute one is fun, but who cares who made it? That's not to say that I don't understand. Status signalling is built into our bones; we want to make sure we get our proper respect and don't get booted out of the tribe. It's just funny to someone who doesn't "get" purses. |
Op here - Thank you!! I don’t like the bags with huge logos, just the small logo. Does this make a difference? |
