mole changed color and shape, freaking out

Anonymous
I was born with a mole on my breast- as I've gotten older and my breasts have gotten fuller, I can't see the mole unless I lift my breasts up - which of course I don't do normally. Well I did the other day and it has definitely changed color and shape and it is scaly. I looked up pictures online and it looks EXACTLY like basal cell carcinoma pictures with the scaliness. Skin cancer runs in my family - I am very pale with red hair - and I am totally totally totally freaking out right now. I cannot get a dr's appointment this week - I called about 40-50 dermatologists and the soonest anyone can see me is next Tuesday. Should I keep calling or is it not going to get any worse in one week? I don't even know what to expect about all of this. Thanks.

One week will be fine. Good luck - and remember, skin cancer is the most treatable cancer of all. My husband has had surgery for it two or three times and is none the worse for wear.

Agree a week won't make a difference in protocol.

One week will not make any difference. But if you just want it removed, you can also see any surgeon or plastic surgeon to just cut it out, send it to the lab, and wait for pathology report. A surgeon might be able to get you into their office sooner than a dermatologist.

I also have a small mole on breast and you can't see it unless you lift up my boob. I call it my "third nipple".

My ob/gyn said that you should expect to see some change in the mole - after all my breasts have inflated and deflated after 9 mo. of pregnancy, 12 months of bfing, and now 2 months "back to normal".

Just a thought to ease your mind.

Erm, it depends on the type of skin cancer. Melanoma, not as you describe. Basal cell like the OP mentions is very treatable, yes.
