Our preschool went downhill fast!

Our child goes to Temple Sinai Nursery School. We have a long history there with older kids, nieces, nephews and friends kids. Our children and parents alike had the best experience however in the last couple years it has been horrible. The new director is reprehensible. I won’t go into details here but she should not be in a childcare setting. The teachers look unhappy and it has changed so much. We are looking for a preschool for our child who will be turning 4 next October. We are Jewish but don’t have to send out child to a Jewish preschool. We would love a kind, nurturing environment that is play based.

That’s really sad — everyone used to love Temple Sinai! I’m sorry OP that I don’t have recommendations - our child goes to a full-time daycare with a PK class in it, which doesn’t sound like what you are looking for.

Thank you 12:23. It is really sad. It used to be a truly fantastic place for my older kids.

TS member here. Have you raised your concerns with the Temple executive director? The NS director reports to her. You can also contact the temple president. I am involved with TS and I have heard nothing but glowing reports about the nursery school, so if things are as bad as what you are saying, your concerns aren’t filtering up.

Current TSNS parent here. We’ve had a great experience with the school the past two years (apart from COVID related policies and communication early on - but it’s much better now). Wonderful teachers, curriculum, parents. I’m curious to hear more about OP’s issue(s).

There's many good centers and family daycares in the area

When we were at TSNS pre-COVID we loved it. Then COVID hit and their communication was awful. In addition, the former, much-loved director "retired" in a manner that suggested perhaps it was not completely her decision. We always found the now director (former assistant director) kind of cold and less than friendly. All that may have been ok, but when they did not open in person for the 20-21 school year (unlike other preschools in the area) we jumped ship and found a preschool that we like much better. This is all to say, don't be afraid of change! There are other good (indeed, better) options.

The TSNS teachers are the warmest, most loving educators. To be fair, it is a really hard act to follow the previous director who founded the school and is so unbelievably warm and charismatic. I think the current director is not as effusive, but I hope there isn’t a decline as noted. We finished right when COVID hit. My kids loved their time there, we have nothing but the best to say of the school. And fwiw we are not Jewish.

Haha. They always blame the Director. Centers has lots of Directors but everyone working there follows the same rules. Maybe the place isn't good at all

This isn’t a daycare center. It’s a 3 hours per day nursery school that offers a couple days a week of 5 hours a week. Very different standards.

It’s the Director, trust me! Temple Sinai is trash!
